50th Anniversary Francis Skaryna Belarusian Library and Museum in London

Fri, 05/14/2021 - 14:56

15th May 17:00. Online: us02web.zoom.us

Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster 35th Anniversary Commemorating March – 25th April 2021

Mon, 04/26/2021 - 11:56

Photostream – Marching through Green Park, Hyde Park Corner, the end destination is Belarus Embassy (6 Kensington Court London W8)

The Chernobyl nuclear accident occurred on the 26th of April 1986. It was the worst nuclear disaster in human history both in terms of cost and casualties and one of only two nuclear energy accidents rated at seven- the maximum severity – on the International Nuclear Event Scale, the other being the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan.

The initial emergency response, together with later decontamination of the environment, ultimately involved more that 600 000 personnel. The United Nations has proclaimed the April 26th as the International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day.

Telling the story of Chernobyl in numbers 30 years later involves dauntingly large figures and others that are even more vexing because they’re still unknown. (AP Photo/Volodymyr Repik, File)

Mon, 04/12/2021 - 16:36

Condolence message The Council of the Anglo-Belarusian Society on behalf of its membership sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to Her Majesty the Queen on the sad loss of her husband, Prince Philip. The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, being a member of the Greek branch of the Oldenburg Dynasty, was connected to the lands which are now Belarus through his bloodline. The warm feelings and interest which he had for the people and culture of Belarus were greatly appreciated, and will be sadly missed by our membership. Anglo-Belarusian Society
